The AGM was held on 22nd March 2023 at

  2. Presentation of reports by the MATEFL Committee
    1. President’s Keynote Address
    2. Secretary’s Report
    3. Treasurer’s Report
    4. Newsletter Editor Report
    5. IATEFL Associate Membership Report
  3. Any Other Business
  4. Election for 2023 - 2025 committee
  5. Workshop (1 hour)

Workshop: Matt Done – Small Steps to Better Listening

Listening is a crucial skill for any language learner. Without the ability to listen well, learners will struggle to have conversations, understand TV and movies, follow lectures, etc. However, one issue with some classroom listening activities is that they focus mainly on testing our learners’ listening ability, but do little to actually develop and improve it. What, for instance, can we do when learners have not understood something in speech? How can we help them listen better? This session offered some possible answers to these important questions and some useful activities to help students with their listening.

Our secretary for the past 16 years, Larrissa Jonk  and our treasurer for the past 10 years, Caroline Campbell stepped down from the committee this year.  They have been an integral part of the committee and they will be greatly missed.  As there were only eight nominations for the position of committee members it was not necessary to hold an election so all eight nominees were welcomed on to the committee including three new members:  Ana Aleksic, Rebecca Portelli and Keith Borg.  Click for the profiles of all the committee
