What has ELF and BELF research done for me?
Evan Frendo has been involved in ESP/ business English teaching since 1993, mostly in the corporate sector. He is based in Berlin, Germany, but his work, at least before COVID, took him to many places in Europe and Asia. Nowadays he divides his time between training, writing and consulting, almost all of it online. He also speaks regularly at conferences and other ELT events. This was Evan's second seminar for MATEFL; the first was back in July 2005.

Firstly, Evan outlined what is meant by ELF and BELF (English as a Lingua Franca and Business English as a Lingua Franca) and looked at some key research which has helped to influence the way people in our profession think about language and communication.
