Matt Done - Developing Listening Skills
Listening is a crucial skill for any language learner. However, one issue with some classroom listening activities is that they test our learners’ listening ability, but do little to actually develop and improve it. What, for instance, can we do when learners haven’t understood something in speech? How can we help them listen better? This session will offer some possible answers to these important questions.
Damiano LaViola - Practical tips on assessing student’s language proficiency using CEFR
How comfortable do you feel when you are given the task of assessing students’ English level? Has it been some time since you last evaluated a participant’s level of English according to the CEFR framework? Join me for this session on brushing up your skills to consolidate an evaluation and to discuss which areas are important when we are asked to assign a level to a student.
Joyce Sant - Using popular TV shows to engage and motivate learners
In this session, Joyce will demonstrate how to engage learners in a storytelling. This activity can be adapted to any level and integrates all four skills of the language. The language focus is to talk about a performance and identify adjectives to describe it; to be able to tell a story and then write about it in a short narrative.
Fabiana Pica - More Than Words: Building Effective Speaking Activities for EFL Learners
In this session with Fabiana, you will explore how to design engaging speaking activities that unlock true communication skills. We will discover the key features of spoken English, from fluency to meditation, and craft meaningful tasks that target specific goals. Through hands-on experience, you'll gain the knowledge and resources to create impactful activities, leverage technology, and empower your students to speak confidently.

Perhaps this session’s tips and tricks, rhymes, and exercises will intrigue you! From pronouncing verb endings to practicing sentence stress, let’s explore some old, new, and borrowed communicative ways to teach pronunciation!
Lindsay Sant - Dictation Activities in the Language Classroom
This workshop is aimed to encourage the use of various types of 21st-century dictation activities in the English Language Classroom. In this workshop we will engage in three types of dictation activities targeting all the four skills (reading, speaking, listening and writing) that our non-native English learners need to hone in order to survive in real-world situations.
Wendy Steciuk – We were all teenagers once - were we really THAT bad?
Do you remember your days as a teenager? A bit of a minefield I am sure you will agree. This session is intended to demystify some of the perceptions of teaching teenagers. Through lively, creative and reflective practices we will discover and share how we can be more inventive on our journey with teenagers in the classroom.
Josianne Block - Nuevo twist in ELT: Incorporating learners’ own languages in the classroom
This interactive session is designed for ELT professionals to explore how to effectively use learners' own languages in the English classroom. Through hands-on and reflective tasks, we will discuss trends in multilingualism like translanguaging, challenge the ‘English-only classroom’ concept, and (re)discover how learners’ first languages can be a valuable tool for second language acquisition. Whether learners share a common language or have diverse linguistic backgrounds, this workshop will embrace multilingualism for a richer classroom experience.
